Have a Sneaker Stitch kit waiting to be made? Or have you been thinking about making your first pair? Our free Makers Sewalong is the perfect opportunity to join in.

We’ll guide you through making your sneakers with weekly videos, preparation tips and encouragement. Take it step by step, build your confidence and enjoy creating something that’s entirely your own.

How to join in

  1. Sign up below to receive weekly emails with links to each new video and reminders about what’s coming next.
  2. Get your kit ready. Already have one? You’re ready to begin preparing. Still need one? Order your Sneaker Stitch kit and choose the fabric you’d love to use.
  3. Download your patterns and Maker’s Guide using the instructions supplied with your kit.
  4. Join our Facebook group to ask questions, share your progress and meet other makers.
  5. Watch, sew and create with us! The videos will also be available on this page, so you can revisit each section and work at your own pace.

We’ll begin with two weeks of preparation, followed by four weeks of making. You don’t need to finish each stage immediately—join in at a pace that works for you.

    Introduction

    • Join our Makers Sewalong Facebook group for questions, encouragement and sharing.
    • Order your Sneaker Stitch kit, or check the contents of the kit you already have.
    • Download and save your sneaker patterns and Maker’s Guide.
    • Gather your supplies and start considering your fabric options.

    Sewalong - Pattern & Fabric

    Week One 

    • Print and prepare your sneaker pattern.
    • Choose the style of sneakers you’re going to make.
    • Select and check your fabrics.
    • Decide which fabrics to use for each part of your sneakers.
    • Prepare your chosen fabrics ready for cutting and sewing.

    Sewalong - Quilting your Uppers

    Week Two

    • Fuse and quilt your fabrics if this is part of your chosen design.
    • Put your fabric layers together for your sneaker style.
    • Prepare your binding, or follow the slip and turn method.
    • Have all your fabric pieces and pattern ready for the next stage.

    Week Three

    • All about the curated tool set.
    • Punchng the hole sin your sneaker uppers.
    • Apply Fray Stop to the punched holes.
    • Setting your grommets for the laces.
    • Get your uppers and soles ready for stitching together.

    Sewalong - Into The Sole

    Week Four

    • Learn how to use your waxed thread and sewing awl.
    • Position your sneaker uppers correctly in the soles.
    • Stitch your uppers into place.
    • Add your insoles and laces, then try on your finished sneakers!
    • Share your completed pair in our Makers Sewalong Facebook group—we’d love to celebrate with you!
